You spent a lot of money to get that flat panel beauty to adorn the wall of your living room. It looks brilliant, and you really enjoyed the cricket match with your friends. the showing off is done, but now what? How do you keep it in pristine condition?

Read on...

1. Viewing distance: The correct viewing distance is very important to be able to enjoy the flat screen TV. The distance depends on the screen size, and the bigger the screen, the further you need to be. Most television manufacturers offer the optimal distance range for their television. Thus, buy a TV according to the size of the room.

2. Don’t pause the DVD for long: Plasma televisions suffer from the “burn in” syndrome. This happens when the same image is displayed on the screen for quite a while, like it happens when a DVD is paused. Avoid pausing the DVD for a long time if you have a Plasma screen. The LCDs, however, don’t suffer from the same problem.

3. Guard against dust: The flat panel televisions are more sensitive to dust than the old CRT versions. When not in use, keep the flat panel covered. Use a bed-sheet type of a cloth to cover the flat panel, so that does not scratch the flat panel either.

4. Continuous power: Power cuts and voltage fluctuations can ruin a flat panel. And since we do face a lot of them in India, using some equipment to protect them is important. Use a 600VA ups to provide uninterrupted power backup to the television, and a set top box, if any.

5. No wet cleaning: Don’t approach the flat panel with a bucket of water and a wet cloth to clean it. Only use a very soft dry cloth to gently clean the panel, otherwise you risk scratching the surface permanently.
